Charles and Barbara Birdsey
 Education Center

In June 2006, the Charles and Barbara Birdsey Education Center opened at the Caring Fields Animal Sanctuary. The Education Center utilizes an existing facility on the property that was renovated and updated with various environmentally-friendly features, including sustainable bamboo flooring.

The mission of the Education Center is to educate the public to peacefully co-exist with wildlife, to reduce animal suffering and overpopulation of companion animals, and to foster compassion towards all species of animals. The Education Center hosts a variety of customized humane education programs for children and seminars for adults.

The Caring Fields Education Center, part of the Pegasus Foundation, is pleased to offer humane education programs, both on- and off-site.  Susan Hargreaves, Director of Education, will travel to your school or civic group meeting to present a customized presentation which outlines the easy, effective ways to help all species of animals.

Educational programs for children are aligned to the Sunshine State Standards established by the Florida Department of Education, and each presentation is customized to a group’s age, interest and needs. The interactive programs for children include: You Can Be an Animal Hero, Wild Neighbors, Mother Nature’s Story, Free in the Sea, and others.

Adult education programs held at Caring Fields have included workshops on the connection between animal abuse and human violence, horse care, animal adoption strategies, innovative animal housing, and grant writing.

Since the Caring Fields Education Center first opened in June 2006, programs for children and adults have been held both on-site and off-site. More than 6,000 people were reached through Caring Fields education programs in the first 18 months. During field trips students learn first-hand how to help animals and the environment.  On-site programing also allows for the development of service learning projects that engage children and youth directly in helping animals while learning about animal protection.  Off-site programs are available in the Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie Counties.

Field trips to the Caring Fields Education Center include aSay Neigh to Animal Cruelty Program humane presentation and a visit with the equine and feline residents of Caring Fields Animal Sanctuary.

Service learning projects that engage children and youth in helping animals while learning about animal protection are also available.  Please, click on the links below for more information about our Education enter programs.
