The Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation (ERAF) utilizes the Caring Fields Animal Sanctuary’s barn and 15 acres of fields for rehabilitating abused and neglected horses with the goal of eventual adoption into permanent homes. Since it began in 2000, ERAF has found homes for more than 80 horses.

ERAF is run by an experienced board of directors. ERAF barn staff is assisted by volunteers, who clean stalls, groom horses and conduct other barn chores. Other volunteers who are experienced riders work with ERAF staff and board members to retrain horses.

ERAF has coordinated efforts with Animal Care and Control departments of both Martin County and Palm Beach County to take custody of abandoned or abused horses that are initially rescued by county officials. ERAF also is listed with the Sunshine State Horse Council as a facility that can accept horses needing to be relocated prior to hurricanes.
